KYBSL Baseball Divisions:
Instructional Baseball/Softball Open to boys & girls who are age 4 as of 4/30/2017.
T-Ball (Ages 5-6) Open to boys & girls who are age 5 or 6 as of 4/30/2017.
KYBSL T-Ball is a program for 5 and 6 year olds to teach the
fundamentals of hitting and fielding. The primary goal is to begin to
instruct young players in the fundamentals of baseball in a supportive
team environment.
The T-Ball rules below should be used as a guideline, while there may be
times that coaches feel the need to deviate from them they should be
followed in principle.
- Each team should field 10 players with 4 outfielders.
- Players will rotate and all players should play infield and outfield positions.
- Everybody plays the field and all players will bat in each inning (bat around with last player hitting 'home run')
- Hitting off the tee is encouraged--especially in the first part of the season.
- Every child bats until they hit the ball.
- Players advance around the bases one base at a time (no "outs")
- Coaches/assistants should be on the field during the game to help instruct children.
- Play as many innings as can fit in the time slot allocated.
- The score is NOT important and should not be kept.
Farm (Ages 6*-7) Open to boys & girls who are age 6 or 7 as of 4/30/2017. (*6 year-olds must have played one year of T-ball)
KYBSL Farm League is a program for 6* and 7 year olds to teach the
fundamentals of hitting and fielding. It seeks to build upon skills
learned in T-Ball with the introduction of coaches pitching to batters
and "outs". The primary goal is to continue to instruct young players
in the fundamentals of baseball in a supportive team environment.
The Farm League rules below should be used as a guideline, while there
may be times that coaches feel the need to deviate from them they should
be followed in principle.
- Each team should field 10 players with 4 outfielders.
- Players will rotate and all players should play infield and outfield positions.
- Everybody plays the field and all players will bat in each inning (bat around with last player hitting 'home run')
- Coaches will pitch to the batters, but if a player does not hit after 5-10 pitches, they will hit off of the Tee.
- Every child bats until they hit the ball.
- If a player is out, they are out. They should be encouraged but we want to start teaching the fundamentals of the game.
- Coaches/assistants should be on the field during the game to help instruct children.
- Play as many innings as can fit in the time slot allocated.
- The score is NOT important and should not be kept.
Rookie (Ages 8-9*) Open to boys & girls who are age 8 or 9 as of 4/30/2017.
KYBSL Rookie League is a program for 8 and 9 year olds to continue
teaching the fundamentals the game. It seeks to build upon skills
learned in T-Ball and Farm with the introduction of MOST standard
baseball rules The primary goal is to continue to instruct young
players in the fundamentals of baseball in a supportive yet competitive
team environment. Teams are formed with the intent of having a balanced
league--there is no "draft". KYBSL will make every effort to
accommodate parental requests, but they are not guaranteed.
The Rookie League rules below should be followed as closely as
reasonably possible. They are based on the official Cal Ripken baseball
rules with minimal "local" modifications.
- Each team should field 10 players with 4 outfielders.
- Players must play at least 4 innings per regular season game including 2 innings in the infield (P, C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B).
- A continuous
batting order will be used throughout the game shall be continued from
game to game throughout the regular season.
- Unlimited "defensive" substitutions are allowed and encouraged.
- Players will
rotate in a clockwise manner after each batter (excluding P, C and 1B).
All players should play infield and outfield positions.
- Coaches may
pitch to their own batters for the first one or two games of the season
as pitchers are identified and developed. This must be agreed upon by
both coaches at the beginning of the game. No batters may walk when a
coach is pitching.
- Any pitcher who walks 5 batters in an inning must be removed from the game.
- Any pitcher who hits 2 batters in a game must be removed from the game.
- Pitchers may pitch no more than 2 innings per game; no player may pitch more than 6 innings in a week (Mon-Sun).
- No breaking
pitch shall be allowed (curve, slider, screw, etc). A warning will be
issued and further infractions will be called a ball. (This is for
safety reasons only--variable speed and deliveries are permitted)
- If a player is out, they are out. They should be encouraged but we want to start teaching the fundamentals of the game.
- Regular season games are 6 innings, but are considered official after 4 complete innings (or 3.5 if home team is ahead)
- Regular season
games have a time limit such that no new inning may start after 1 hr 45
minutes from the start of the game. Games called on account of the time
limit will be considered official regardless of the number of innings
played.
- Regular season games may end in a tie.
- No bunting, leading or stealing.
- Batters are limited to one base on an overthrow.
- A batter cannot get more than a Double on any it.
- 5 run maximum per half-inning.
Minor (Ages 10-11) Open to boys who are age 10 or 11 as of 4/30/2017.
KYBSL Minor League is a program for 10 and 11 year olds to begin
teaching the finer aspects of the game. Occasionally, it may be
necessary to call up 9 year olds to fill out rosters. It seeks to build
upon skills learned in Rookie with the introduction of MORE standard baseball rules.
The primary goal is to continue to instruct young players in the
fundamentals of baseball in a supportive yet competitive team
environment. Teams are still formed with the intent of having a
balanced league, however there is a "draft". KYBSL will make every effort to accommodate parental requests, but they are not guaranteed.
The Rookie League rules below should be followed as closely as
reasonably possible. They are based on the official Cal Ripken baseball
rules with minimal "local" modifications.
- Regular season games are 6 innings, but are considered official after 4 complete innings (or 3.5 if home team is ahead)
- Regular season games DO NOT have a time limit.

- Unlimited "defensive" substitutions are allowed and encouraged.
- Stealing of 2nd and 3rd base ONLY. However, if the runner at 3rd is directly played upon, they may attempt to steal home. A runner at 3rd base cannot go home on a passed ball or when a catcher makes a play at 1st or 2nd base.
- 5 run maximum per half-inning except the last inning, which is unlimited.
- Slaughter Rule: A game will be
considered final if one team is ahead by 10 or more runs and have had
equal times at bat. Running up the score is strongly discouraged!
Pitching:
- No player may pitch more than 6
innings in a week (Mon-Sun). Also, no player can pitch more than 6
innings in any two consecutive games.
- Any player who pitches 1 or 2 innings in one game must have 1 full calendar day of rest before pitching again.
- Any player who pitches 3 innings in one game must have 2 full calendar days of rest before pitching again.
- Any player who pitches 4 or more innings in one game must have 3 full calendar days of rest before pitching again.

Major (Age 12) Open to boys who are age 12 as of 4/30/2017.
KYBSL Minor League is a program for 12 year olds to continue refining the finer aspects of the game.
It follows the official rules of baseball as defined in the Babe Ruth
League Rules and Regulations handbook. The ball is live unless time is
granted by an umpire. Runners are allowed to steal at will and at
their peril. Teams are still formed with the intent of having a
balanced league, however there is a "draft". KYBSL will make every
effort to accommodate parental requests, but they are not guaranteed.
The Standard Babe Ruth rules should be followed as closely as reasonably
possible with minimal "local" modifications as noted below.
- Regular season games are 6 innings, but are considered official after 4 complete innings (or 3.5 if home team is ahead)
