 KYBSL Baseball Divisions:

Instructional League  Open to all genders who are preschool age, 4. Learn to throw, catch,  hit  and run the bases; have fun.

T-Ball (Kindergarten)   Open to all genders.

KYBSL T-Ball is a program for kindergarteners to teach the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. The primary goal is to begin to instruct young players in the fundamentals of baseball in a supportive team environment.

The T-Ball rules below should be used as a guideline, while there may be times that coaches feel the need to deviate from them they should be followed in principle.

  • Each team should field 10 players with 4 outfielders.
  • Players will rotate and all players should play infield and outfield positions.
  • Everybody plays the field and all players will bat in each inning (bat around with last player hitting 'home run')
  • Hitting off the tee is encouraged--especially in the first part of the season.
  • Every child bats until they hit the ball.
  • Players advance around the bases one base at a time (no "outs")
  • Coaches/assistants should be on the field during the game to help instruct children.
  • Play as many innings as can fit in the time slot allocated.
  • The score is NOT important and should not be kept.

Farm AA (Grades 1 & 2 )   Open to all genders.

KYBSL Farm League is a program for first and second graders to teach the fundamentals. It seeks to build upon skills learned in T-Ball with the introduction of coach pitch to batters and defining "outs".  The primary goal is to continue to instruct young players in the fundamentals of baseball in a supportive team environment.

The Farm League rules below should be used as a guideline, while there may be times that coaches feel the need to deviate from them they should be followed in principle.
  • Each team should field 10 players with 4 outfielders.
  • Players will rotate and all players should play infield and outfield positions.
  • Everybody plays the field and all players will bat in each inning (bat around with last player hitting 'home run')
  • Coaches will pitch to the batters, but if a player does not hit after 5-10 pitches, they will hit off of the Tee.
  • Every child bats until they hit the ball.
  • If a player is out, they are out.  They should be encouraged but we want to start teaching the fundamentals of the game.
  • Coaches/assistants should be on the field during the game to help instruct children.
  • Play as many innings as can fit in the time slot allocated.
  • The score is NOT important and should not be kept.

Minors AAA  (Grades 3 & 4 )  Open to all genders.

KYBSL Minor League is a program that seeks to build upon skills learned in Farm AA with the introduction of MORE standard baseball rules.  The primary goal is to continue to instruct young players in the fundamentals of baseball in a supportive yet competitive team environment.  Teams are still formed with the intent of having a balanced league, through  a "draft".  KYBSL will make every effort to accommodate parental requests, but they are not guaranteed.

  • Regular season games are 6 innings, but are considered official after 4 complete innings (or 3.5 if home team is ahead)
  • Regular season games DO NOT have a time limit.  However, if there is another game immediately following, then no new inning may start after 1 hr. 45 minutes from the start of the game.  Games called on account of the time limit will be considered official regardless of the number of innings played.
  • Regular season games may end in a tie.
  • Each team should field 9 players with 3 outfielders.
  • Players must play at least 4 innings per regular season game including 2 innings in the infield (P, C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B).
  • A continuous batting order will be used throughout the game shall be continued from game to game throughout the regular season.
  • Unlimited "defensive" substitutions are allowed and encouraged.
  • Stealing of 2nd and 3rd base ONLY.   A runner at 3rd base cannot go home on a passed ball or when a catcher makes a play at 1st or 2nd base.
  • 5 run maximum per half-inning except the last inning, which is unlimited.
  • Slaughter Rule:  A game will be considered final if one team is ahead by 10 or more runs and have had equal times at bat.   Running up the score is strongly discouraged!
Pitching:
  • No player may pitch more than 6 innings in a week (Mon-Sun).  Also, no player can pitch more than 6 innings in any two consecutive games.
  • Any player who pitches 1 or 2 innings in one game must have 1 full calendar day of rest before pitching again.
  • Any player who pitches 3 innings in one game must have 2 full calendar days of rest before pitching again.
  • Any player who pitches 4 or more innings in one game must have 3 full calendar days of rest before pitching again.
  • No breaking pitch shall be allowed (curve, slider, screw, etc.).  A warning will be issued and further infractions will be called a ball.  (This is for safety reasons only--variable speed and deliveries are permitted)
  • Once a pitcher is removed from the pitching position, they cannot re-enter the game as a pitcher.

Majors (Grade 5 & 6 )  Open to all genders.

KYBSL Major  League is a program  to continue refining the finer aspects of the game.  It follows the official rules of baseball as defined in the Babe Ruth League Rules and Regulations handbook.   The ball is live unless time is granted by an umpire.  Runners are allowed to steal at will and at their peril.  Teams are still formed with the intent of having a balanced league, however there is a "draft".  KYBSL will make every effort to accommodate parental requests, but they are not guaranteed.

The Standard Babe Ruth rules should be followed as closely as reasonably possible with minimal "local" modifications as noted below.
  • Regular season games are 6 innings, but are considered official after 4 complete innings (or 3.5 if home team is ahead)
  • Regular season games DO NOT have a time limit.  However, if there is another game immediately following, then no new inning may start after 2 hrs from the start of the game.  Games called on account of the time limit will be considered official regardless of the number of innings played.
